Stercobilin hydrochloride is a mixture of isomers of Stercobilin. In nature, stercobilin is a tetrapyrrolic bile pigment that is one end-product catabolite of heme. It gives the characteristic brown color to human feces. In research, it can be used as a marker for identification of fecal pollution in rivers.
