Stearidonic acid is an 18-carbon, omega-3 fatty acid which is a dietary precursor to EPA and DHA. Stearidonic acid is present in small amounts in seed oils, especially black currant seed oil. Stearidonic acid (SDA) is a beneficial omega-3 fatty acid present in specific plant oils like hemp, flaxseed, and sunflower. Being a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), Stearidonic acid shares a structural resemblance with eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
