STAT3 Inhibitor VII is a cell permeable dihydroquinoline that specifically inhibits JAK1, JAK2, TYK2, and STAT3. This pathway is important in cell proliferation and so this inhibitor is ideal to inhibit cell proliferation in cancer cells. STAT3 is part of the STAT family of proteins which are readily phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases. Upon activation STAT proteins induce transcription factors. Studies involving IFNgamma-activated human astrocytes indicate that STAT3 inhibitors can attenuate neutoxicity and inflammatory molecule production. In addition, studies suggest that STAT3 Inhibitor VII is an active suppressor of IL-23-induced expression of IL-23 receptor subunits in human SUPT-1T cells and in primary CD4 human T cells.
