SP Antibody (4G7C3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects the SP protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), flow cytometry (FCM), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-SP antibody (4G7C3) is available as the non-conjugated form. SP protein, also known as pS2, plays a crucial role in mucosal healing and is part of the trefoil factor family, which consists of protease-resistant peptides secreted throughout the gastrointestinal tract. These trefoil peptides are characterized by their unique three-dimensional structure, which includes three intrachain disulfide bonds that form the trefoil motif, or P-domain. This specific structure is essential for SP protein′s stability and function, allowing SP protein to protect and repair the mucosal lining of the gut. pS2 is highly expressed in normal gastric mucosa and has been implicated in various carcinomas, including those of the breast, pancreas, and stomach. Notably, pS2 is absent in normal breast tissue but can be induced by estrogen in MCF7 cells, highlighting pS2′s potential role in cancer biology. Additionally, pS2 forms dimers, a process believed to enhance protective and healing properties, making pS2 a significant target for research in gastrointestinal health and cancer. The gene encoding pS2 is located on human chromosome 21q22.3, further emphasizing pS2′s relevance in human health and disease.
