Somatostatin Antibody (YC7) is a rat monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects Somatostatin in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. Anti-Somatostatin antibody (YC7) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Somatostatin is a crucial regulatory hormone that plays a significant role in inhibiting the release of several secondary hormones by binding to high-affinity G protein-coupled somatostatin receptors. This cyclic tetradecapeptide is essential for regulating the secretion of key hormones such as growth hormone, insulin, and glucagon, thereby influencing metabolic processes. Somatostatin is predominantly located in the hypothalamus and pancreas, where Somatostatin regulates insulin synthesis. Somatostatin exists in two active forms, Somatostatin-14 and Somatostatin-28, which are generated through the alternate cleavage of a single preproprotein encoded by the gene. These forms are highly expressed in the cerebellum at different developmental stages, with Somatostatin-14 being prevalent at birth and Somatostatin-28 in adulthood. Somatostatin has been shown to modulate neurotransmission rates in the central nervous system and influence the proliferation of both normal and tumorigenic cells, highlighting Somatostatin′s importance in various physiological and pathological processes. The gene encoding Somatostatin is located on human chromosome 3q27, underscoring Somatostatin′s relevance in human health and disease.

Can you confirm this antibody is indeed an IgG2a isotype and not an IgG2b? When searching this clone (YC7) it shows up as isotype IgG2b.

Asked by: PeterEB

Hi! We recently tried out a sample of YC7 on mouse brain tissue, for free floating IHC (no antigen retrival, but quenching and permiabilizing). We got nice, clear cell body staining, HOWEVER there was no co-localization with GAD67. Is this correct?

I am using Somatostatin (YC7): sc-47706 monoclonal antibody to stain paraffin embedded tissue. Do you recommend antigen retrieval when using this antibody?

Asked by: Professor Griffin
We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
