Sodium oxamate is an inhibitor of gluconeogenesis and glycolysis. It is a structural analog of pyruvate, inhibits LDH (L(+)-lactate dehydrogenase) and derails the entire gluconeogenic pathway. It can inhibit the activity of glycolytic enzymes and is used in a variety of research applications, including biochemical and physiological studies. As cancer cells are often dependent on glycolysis for ATP production, sodium oxamate has implications as an anticancer compound.
