Sodium metasilicate is used in preparation of NaZnSiO3OH, which is a novel chiral framework material that has potential application in ion exchange, adsorption and catalysis. Sodium metasilicate is found in the form of a powdered or flaked solid substance, but it′s important to handle it with care as it can be a strong irritant to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Additionally, ingestion may lead to toxicity. Interestingly, concentrated aqueous solutions of sodium silicate serve as a type of glue due to its adhesive properties.
