Sodium heptafluorobutyrate, known as HFBA, is an organofluorine compound in many scientific applications, including as a reagent for the synthesis of organic compounds, a catalyst for various reactions. It is used to create esters, amides, and amines and is a catalyst for the synthesis of peptides and peptidomimetics. Sodium heptafluorobutyrate is an anion that can act as a nucleophile and a Lewis acid. It can be used to analyze and determine the presence of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids. Sodium heptafluorobutyrate can inhibit the activity of multiple enzymes, such as proteases, phosphatases, and kinases, as well as inhibit the growth of various bacteria and fungi.
