Sodium formate is a versatile chemical used in many laboratory techniques including crystallization, molecule-based material construction, and chemiluminescence. Sodium formate is an intermediate involved in making of formic acid, oxalic acid, and sodium dithionite. Buffering agent for strong mineral acids and noble metals. Sodium formate has been shown to act as a sigmal for Salmonella invasion. Sodium formate also acts as a free radical scavenger.
