Sodium cholate is a non-denaturing detergent used in combination with urea for membrane protein and protein complex extraction. Sodium cholate, derived from the breakdown of cholesterol in the liver, is a white crystalline powder with water solubility and slight solubility in ethanol. In laboratory experiments, sodium cholate has been utilized to investigate the impact of different drugs and substances on cell cultures, including liver cells, kidney cells, and various other cell types. It is also used to study the effects of different proteins on cell membranes.
