QUICK LINKS

Sodium bisulfate (NaHSO4) is a crystalline white solid composed of sodium, hydrogen, and sulfate ions. It possesses no odor and is considered non-toxic. Sodium bisulfate serves as a buffer in biochemical experiments, enabling the maintenance of a constant pH within a broad concentration range. Sodium bisulfate is utilized to investigate enzyme activity, as it possesses the capability to inhibit specific enzymes. The functionality of Sodium bisulfate relies on its ability to bind to certain enzymes, impeding their normal functions. This binding interaction is reversible, allowing for the reactivation of the enzyme upon removal of Sodium bisulfate. Sodium bisulfate acts as a proton acceptor, effectively accepting protons from other molecules and contributing to the maintenance of a consistent pH environment.
