Sodium Acetate, Anhydrous is used in several applications. A formulation with ethanol may be used for precipitation of nucleic acids. This compound is often used in the preparation of gel stains for protein gel electrophoresis. Effective as a buffer with Acetic acid (sc-214462) in the range of pH 3.6 - 5.6. Studies on microbial pili suggest that sodium acetate suppressed K99 production in E. coli strains cultured on a minimal medium. Experiments have shown that when added to food waste composting systems, Sodium Acetate, Anhydrous may be effective at counteracting the adverse effects of organic acids produced in the composting process. Additional forms available: Sodium Acetate, 1M (sc-296390) Sodium acetate trihydrate (sc-203270) Sodium acetate buffer solution (sc-296389)
