QUICK LINKS

Sodium 2,4-pentanedionate, more known as sodium acetylacetonate, is an organic compound used in a variety of scientific applications. The acetylacetonate (acac) anion is often used as a ligand in inorganic and organometallic chemistry. Acetylacetonates serve as precursors for metal acetylacetonate complexes, which are frequently utilized in chemical reactions, including catalysis. These complexes can also be used in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) to deposit thin metal oxide films. Additionally, sodium acetylacetonate acts as a stabilizer in certain solvents and aids in the analysis of metal ions through the formation of colored chelate complexes. Furthermore, it is used in the synthesis of polymers, such as polyethylene glycol, and in the production of organic acids. Studies have found antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of sodium acetylacetonate.
