SOD-2 Antibody (24) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody specifically raised against recombinant human Superoxide Dismutase 2 (SOD2), an essential mitochondrial enzyme critical for protecting cells from oxidative damage by catalyzing the conversion of the superoxide anion into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. SOD2, also known as manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), is synthesized in the cytosol and posttranslationally transported into the mitochondrial matrix, where SOD2 plays a pivotal role in cellular defense mechanisms against reactive oxygen species (ROS). SOD2′s mitochondrial location is particularly important, as this organelle is a major source of ROS during cellular respiration, and SOD2′s activity ensures the mitigation of oxidative stress that could otherwise lead to mitochondrial dysfunction and subsequent cellular damage. Dysfunction or mutations in the SOD2 gene have been implicated in several pathological conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer′s and Parkinson′s, ischemic heart disease, and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. Studies in animal models have demonstrated the critical role of SOD2, with homozygous mutant mice exhibiting severe oxidative damage, dilated cardiomyopathy, and metabolic abnormalities. Anti-SOD-2 antibody (24) is validated for use in western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), providing researchers with a reliable tool for studying the function and regulation of this indispensable mitochondrial enzyme.
