Smoothelin Antibody (2Q1120) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects smoothelin in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. Smoothelin is a crucial cytoskeletal protein that plays a significant role in the contractile function of smooth muscle cells, which are essential for various physiological processes, including blood vessel contraction and gastrointestinal motility. Smoothelin (2Q1120) antibody primarily localizes within the filament network of contractile smooth muscle cells, where smoothelin associates with actin stress fibers, contributing to the structural integrity and contractility of these cells. Smoothelin exists in at least two isoforms produced by alternative splicing, with the short isoform being expressed in visceral muscle tissues such as the intestine and stomach, while the long isoform is found in all vascularized organs. Smoothelin expression is particularly important in the vascular system, as smoothelin is limited to large veins and arteries capable of pulsatile contraction, making anti-smoothelin antibody (2Q1120) a valuable marker for studying vascular malformations and injuries. The gene encoding human smoothelin is located on chromosome 22q12.2, highlighting smoothelin′s evolutionary conservation among vertebrates and significance in smooth muscle cell differentiation and function.
