SLC4A8 Antibody (LX-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG3 kappa light chain antibody that detects SLC4A8 protein of human origin by immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-SLC4A8 antibody (LX-2) is available as a non-conjugated format. SLC4A8, also known as solute carrier family 4, sodium bicarbonate cotransporter, member 8, NBC3, kNBC3, or NDCBE (Na+-Driven Chloride Bicarbonate Exchanger), is a crucial member of the anion exchanger family predominantly expressed in brain and spinal column, with moderate expression levels in thyroid, kidney, and trachea. SLC4A8 maintains intracellular pH balance in neurons by functioning as an electroneutral transporter that mediates the exchange of bicarbonate and sodium ions for chloride ions across cell membranes. SLC4A8 localizes to membranes as a multi-pass membrane protein and undergoes N-glycosylation, essential for stability and function. SLC4A8 exists in high concentrations within pyramidal cells of hippocampus and Purkinje cells of cerebellum, highlighting significance in neuronal activity and signaling. SLC4A8 shares close relation to other transporters such as NCBE and SLC4A7, with alternative splicing generating seven distinct isoforms, underscoring complexity and regulatory mechanisms in physiological processes.
