Simazine is a triazine herbicide. This systemic triazine herbicide, simazine, possesses the capability to suppress the photosynthesis process and obstruct linear electron transport within the light chain. Simazine exists as a white to off-white crystalline powder, and chemically, it can be described as a diamino-1,3,5-triazine, specifically N,N′-diethyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine substituted with a chloro group at position 6. Simazine, along with other chlorinated triazines, including atrazine, propazine, and common chlorotriazine degradates, affects the HPG axis through a shared mechanism of toxicity.
