Sesamin is a lignan isolated from the bark of Fagara plants and from sesame oil. It is a non-competitive inhibitor of Δ5-desaturase. Sesamin inhibits the conversion of DGLA to arachidonic acid (Ki = 155 µM) in rat liver microsomes. Sesamin also has antioxidant properties and may act to inhibit protein oxidation in vitro.
