SC 26196 is a selective FADS2 (Delta6 desaturase) inhibitor that displays selectivity over Delta5 and Delta9 desaturases. It completely blocks the conversion of linoleic acid to arachidonic acid (AA). It also blocks aging-related increases in AA in myocardial cardiolipin in mice, attenuating contractile dysfunction without impacting mitochondrial oxidative stress.
