SB-3CT is a competitive, mechanism-based, and selective inhibitor of MMP-2 and MMP-9 (matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9). Studies show it directly binds to the catalytic zinc ion on MMP-2. SB-3CT can be metabolized to an even more potent gelatinase inhibitor.
