[Sar-9, Met(O2)-11]-Substance P is a highly selective NK-1R (NK-1 neurokinin receptor) agonist which stimulates endocytosis of NK-1 receptors but has minimal effect on NK-3 receptors. Studies suggest that this peptide does not insert into neutral or negatively charged lipid bilayers and densely packed lipid monolayers at surface pressures greater than 31 mN/m. Furthermore, in vitro tests show that [Sar-9, Met(O2)-11]-Substance P augments the release of vasopressin from the hypothalamo-neurohypophysial system.
