Salazinic acid, a depsidone lichen metabolite discovered in P. sulcata, exhibits notable properties. In vitro studies have revealed its activity against various microorganisms with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) ranging from 3.9 to 30.8 mM. Additionally, salazinic acid demonstrates cytotoxic effects on MM98, A431, and HaCaT cells, as evidenced by crystal violet assays (with EC50s of 159, 2,870, and 48 μM, respectively) and neutral red uptake assays (with EC50s of 1,925, 1,913, and 907 μM, respectively). Notably, when used at a concentration of 30 μM, it accelerates wound closure in scratch-wounded HaCaT monolayers and enhances HaCaT cell migration in transwell assays.
