(S)-Flurbiprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory compound that functions as an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, such as COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes. It exerts its mechanism of action by binding to the active site of these enzymes, thereby preventing the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2. This inhibition leads to a decrease in the production of prostaglandins.
