The CBS (Corey-Bakshi-Shibata) oxazaborolidine class of catalysts are used to induce asymmetry in the borane reduction of prochiral ketones and imines. Many reports describe the use of these catalysts for efficiently synthesizing a range of stereodefined motifs, including α-hydroxy acids and α-amino acids. Choice of this catalyst or the (R)-(+)-catalyst (sc-258069) will determine the stereochemistry of the intended transformation.
