QUICK LINKS

Rauwolscine • HCl is a standard alpha2-adrenergic antagonist (Ki values are 3.5, 4.6, and 0.6 nM at cloned human alpha2A-AR,, alpha2B-AR, and alpha2C-AR adrenoceptors respectively). Also exhibits partial agonist characteristics at SR-1A (5-HT1A receptors). Rauwolscine hydrochloride acts as an agonist at α2-adrenergic receptors, resulting in increased norepinephrine release. It also acts as an antagonist at α1-adrenergic receptors, resulting in decreased norepinephrine release. In addition, it may act to inhibit the reuptake of serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline, and to act as an inhibitor of monoamine oxidase.
