R-Phycoerythrin is an intensely fluorescent phycobiliprotein that exhibits an orange-red fluorescence. R-Phycoerythrin is useful as a fluorescence-based indicator for the presence of cyanobacteria and for labeling antibodies. The protein′s ability to efficiently absorb and emit light is harnessed in fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence assays, where it serves as a marker to visualize specific cells, proteins, or other biomolecules. R-Phycoerythrin′s properties are exploited in the development of biosensors and bioassays, where its fluorescent signal can be used to report the presence or activity of specific analytes or conditions within a sample.
