Pyochelin I and Pyochelin II are two types of iron-chelating siderophores produced by the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Siderophores are small molecules that are secreted by bacteria to scavenge iron from the environment, which is an essential nutrient for their growth and survival. Pyochelin I and II are structurally similar molecules composed of a cyclic dipeptide backbone linked to a hydroxamate group. They are important biomarkers and virulence factors of P. aeruginosa, as they allow the bacterium to obtain iron from the host during infection, and they also have immunomodulatory effects. They have been widely used in scientific research as tools to study bacterial physiology and pathogenesis. Some common applications of Pyochelin I and II in research include iron acquisition and metabolism, antibacterial activity, biofilm formation, and pathogenesis.
