QUICK LINKS

Prulifloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that functions by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme. This inhibition prevents the relaxation of supercoiled DNA, leading to the disruption of DNA replication and transcription processes in susceptible bacteria. As a result, prulifloxacin exerts its bactericidal effect by interfering with the cellular functions of the target microorganisms. By targeting the DNA gyrase enzyme, prulifloxacin disrupts the bacterial DNA replication machinery, ultimately leading to the inhibition of bacterial growth and proliferation. This mechanism of action makes prulifloxacin useful for studying the molecular processes involved in bacterial DNA replication and transcription, providing insights into the fundamental biological pathways of bacterial cells.
