Prothrombin Antibody (28H5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects Prothrombin in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Prothrombin, also known as Factor II, plays a critical role in the hemostatic process, serving as a precursor to Thrombin, which is essential for blood coagulation. The conversion of Prothrombin to Thrombin is initiated by proteolytic cleavage at residue 44, a crucial step that activates several other coagulation factors, including Factors V, VII, VIII, and XIII. This activation cascade not only facilitates the formation of fibrin clots but also enhances platelet aggregation, thereby preventing excessive bleeding following tissue injury. Additionally, Prothrombin is involved in maintaining vascular integrity during development and postnatal life, as Prothrombin coordinates the activity of connective tissue proteins by stimulating fibroblast production of procollagen. Prothrombin (28H5) antibody is an invaluable tool for researchers studying coagulation pathways and related disorders, providing insights into the mechanisms of hemostasis and potential therapeutic targets.
