Prostaglandin F2α ethanolamide (PGF2α-EA) is a PGF2α (sc-201227) analog formed via Anandamide (Arachinodoyl Ethanolamine; AEA; sc-200790), an endogenous cannabinoid, which acts as a substrate for cyclooxygenase. The conversion of AEA to prostaglandins has been demonstrated with many different eicosanoids, some of which display unique biological activity. PGF2α-EA is a potent dilator (EC50 = 58 nM) of the cat iris sphincter, which has been used as a model system for testing potential intraocular hypotensive agents.
