Prostaglandin F2a is a major uterine prostaglandin that may act to cause contraction of vascular, bronchial, intestinal, myometrial smooth muscle, and to inhibit adipocyte differentiation. Research has demonstrated that PGF2alpha inhibits nitric oxide production by the uterine tissue, increases uterine contractility, and displays potent luteolytic activity. Prostaglandin F2alpha is an activator of PGF2alphaR.
