QUICK LINKS
Prostaglandin E2 serinol amide (PGE2-SA) is a stable analog of the PGE2 2-glyceryl ester, which equilibrates rapidly (within minutes) to the more stable 1-glyceryl ester (sc-205453), producing a 10:90 2:1-glyceryl ester mixture in typical aqueous media - making this compound potentially useful to probe the action of this elusive 2-glycero species. Incubation of 2-arachidonylglycerol (2-AG), the putative natural ligand for the CB1 receptor, with COX-2 and specific prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) isomerases in cell cultures and isolated enzyme preparations results in prostaglandin glycerol ester formation. The similarity in structure between these acylmonoglycerides should prove useful in structure-activity studies used to in the deconvolution of these complex biochemical pathways.
