QUICK LINKS

Prostaglandin E2 methyl ester is an analog of PGE2 (sc-201225) with enhanced lipid solubility, that has been suggested to play a role in rapid-eye-movement sleep regulation. PGE2 is the most physiologically abundant eicosanoid, which is produced predominantly from arachidonic acid (sc-200770) by COX and PGE2, and exists at some level in nearly all cell types. PGE2 acts on four different receptors termed EP1 through EP4 yielding an astounding array of biological effects; the use of these prostaglandin analogues is integral for structure-activity studies used in the deconvolution of these complex biochemical pathways.
