Progesterone is a steroid hormone that induces maturation and secretory activity of the uterine endothelium while suppressing ovulation. It is implicated in the etiology of breast cancer and is an activator of Progesterone Receptor. Progesterone is important for the regulation of other hormones, such as estrogen and testosterone. Progesterone also acts on the hypothalamus and pituitary gland to regulate the release of hormones, such as luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. Progesterone is involved in the regulation of cell growth, development, and gene expression. Progesterone is also in vitro to study the effects of hormones on the female reproductive system.
