Prestin Antibody (1F4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects the Prestin protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Prestin antibody (1F4) is available as a non-conjugated format. Prestin, also known as SLC26A5, is a crucial transmembrane protein located in the outer hair cells of the cochlea, where Prestin plays a vital role in the auditory system. Prestin (1F4) antibody recognizes a protein responsible for the remarkable ability of outer hair cells to change their length in response to sound stimuli, which is essential for the sensitivity and frequency selectivity of mammalian hearing. Prestin functions as a direct voltage-to-force converter, utilizing cytoplasmic anions as extrinsic voltage sensors, allowing Prestin to operate at microsecond rates. The presence of intracellular anions, such as chloride and bicarbonate, is critical for Prestin′s role as the motor molecule of outer hair cells, facilitating sound amplification by mediating changes in cell length in response to variations in membrane potential. Notably, the voltage sensitivity of Prestin is significantly influenced by temperature, highlighting Prestin′s intricate relationship with the physiological conditions of the cochlea.
