Prallethrins belong to the class of pyrethroid insecticides, known for their broad insecticidal properties. Specifically, prallethrin is classified as a cyclopropane compound and falls within the category of terminal acetylenic compounds. Functionally, it serves as a pyrethroid ester insecticide and finds application as an agrochemical. Prallethrin is derived from chrysanthemic acid. Upon absorption through the chitinous exoskeleton of arthropods, pyrethrins, including prallethrins, exert their effect by stimulating the nervous system. This stimulatory action appears to arise from competitive interference with cationic conductances in the lipid layer of nerve cells. As a result, the transmission of nerve impulses is blocked, leading to the insecticidal activity of prallethrins.
