Posaconazole is a triazole anti-fungal. Posaconazole is an inhibitor of CYP51A1. it functions by inhibiting the activity of the 14-alpha demethylase enzyme. This particular enzyme plays a role in the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell wall. By blocking this enzyme, Posaconazole effectively hinders the conversion of lanosterol into ergosterol, thereby preventing the formation of functional fungal cell walls. Consequently, the integrity and permeability of the fungal cell membranes are compromised, resulting in the lysis of the fungal cells.
