Polyethyleneimine, 50% aqueous solution is a branched chain polymer with a ratio of 1:2:1 for primary:secondary:tertiary amines. Structurally this compound has a branching site every 3 to 3.5 nitrogen atoms of the molecule. Studies indicate that Polyethyleneimine, 50% aqueous solution is used to precipitate proteins, nucleic acids and transfection assays. In addition, this solution is beneficial in the pretreatment of filters due to its ability to bind proteins. Polyethyleneimine, 50% aqueous solution can form complexes with heavy metal ions, permeabilize gram negative bacteria and act as an enzyme carrier.
