Poly(4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidine ethanol-alt-1,4-butanedioic acid) is a complex organic polymer that is often used as a light stabilizer in various materials, particularly in plastics, to protect them from degradation due to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The polymer is referred to as a Hindered Amine Light Stabilizer (HALS). Its structure aims to incorporate the light-stabilizing capabilities of the piperidine ethanol unit with the carboxylic functionalities from the succinic acid unit. This compound is used in the formulation of coatings, adhesives, and various types of plastics to protect these materials from the harmful effects of UV light, thereby extending their lifetime and maintaining their mechanical properties.
