PNU-282,987 is a highly selective agonist for the homomeric α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAChR). This novel agonist of the α7 nAChR has been utilized in multiple model brain investigations of this receptor. Utilizing rat hippocampal slices PNU-282,987 has been reported to evoke whole-cell currents. PNU-282,987 is hypothesized to modulate or enhance GABAergic hippocampal neurotransmission. Additionally, in mouse cerebellum, ethanol-induce ataxia was attenuated in a dose-dependant fashion with administration of PNU-282,987. PNU-282,987 has also been used in various studies to investigate the effects of the compound on hippocampal theta oscillation.
