(±) Menthol-d4 is a TRPM8 receptor agonist. (±) Menthol-d4 is the deuterium-labeled form of menthol, a natural analgesic compound. Menthol is known to induce a cooling sensation by inhibiting calcium ion (Ca++) currents on neuronal membranes, which stimulates the "cold" receptors.
