(±)-Jasmonic Acid is derived from linoleic acid, and a member of the jasmonates produced in the octadecanoid pathway. (±)-Jasmonic Acid is a plant growth regulator involved in the signaling mechanisms for a variety of conditions including plant wound healing, tuberization, fruit ripening, roles in biotic/abiotic stress responses, defense, and senescence. It has also been observed to be involved in reproductive processes of Nicotiana tabacum L as well as LO (lipoxygenase) inhibition. The mechanism of action of (±)-Jasmonic Acid has been documented to be hormonal by regulating the translation of varying genes.
