(±)-3-Methyl-2-oxovaleric acid sodium salt is a racemic mixture of 3-methyl-2-oxovaleric acid. It is a substrate of α-keto acid dehydrogenases and can be used to study their specificity, distribution, and kinetics. This can also be used to study as a reactive oxygen scavenger.
