PIP2 is an activator of PKC (protein kinase C) in the presence of calcium ions phosphatidylserine. PIP2 is an antagonist of KIR3.4 (ATP-sensitive potassium, KATP) channels when applied to inside-out membrane patches. PIP2 is a component of membrane-bound receptors associated with PLC (phospholipase C). PIP2 potently stimulates brain PLD (phospholipase D) activity in vitro.
