Pinacidil is a K+ channel opener. Pinacidil is demonstrated to induce relaxation of serotonin-produced contractions in porcine and human arterial rings. This action is suppressed by the ATP-dependent K+ (KATP) channel blockers Glibenclamide (sc-200982) and Tetrapentylammonium salts (sc-251210), suggesting that relaxations induced by Pinacidil are mediated by opening of KATP channels.
