Phosphazene base P4-t-Bu solution (TB-P4) is an extremely strong, hindered, neutral nitrogen base approximately 1018 times more basic than DBU [pKa (DMSO) 30.25]. It is stable to hydrolysis and unaffected by alkylating agents. It acts as a base for enolate formation and stereoselective alkylation. Phosphazene base P4-t-Bu solution can be used as a precursor in the synthesis of organic compounds, as a solvent, and as an intermediate in the production of polymers. It may act to be an effective inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which is involved in the production of prostaglandins. It also exhibits analgesic effects and modulates the activity of certain neurotransmitters.
