Phosalone, a widely used organophosphate insecticide, holds significant applications in agricultural production. Phosalone primarily exists in solid form and demonstrates practical insolubility in water while maintaining a relatively neutral nature. Within cells, it is predominantly located in the membrane. Phosalone is considered potentially toxic. Chemically, phosalone belongs to the class of 1,3-benzoxazoles, featuring a [(diethoxyphosphorothioyl)sulfanyl]methyl group at the nitrogen atom, an oxo group at position 2, and a chloro group at position 6. As an organothiophosphate insecticide, it serves as an EC 3.1.1.7 (acetylcholinesterase) inhibitor, an EC 3.1.1.8 (cholinesterase) inhibitor, an acaricide, and an agrochemical. Its efficacy stems from its ability to target lipid peroxidation and various antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase.
