Phomopsin A, a peptide mycotoxin originally derived from Phomopsis leptostromiformis, has been shown to be a potent microtubule inhibitor. Mechanistic studies suggest that the inhibition of polymerization of tubulin takes place via suppression of [3H]vinblastine binding to tubulin and enhancement of Colchicine (sc-203005) to tubulin. More specific studies report that Phompsin A exerts its action on tubulin through interaction near the vinblastine binding site.

This Chemical, Phomopsin A, was used in the 1997 publication “Interaction of phomopsin A with normal and subtilisin-treated bovine brain tubulin.” (PMID: 9112603) by Chaudhuri et. al. Phomopsin A is shown to “inhibit the decay process of alpha(s) beta(s) tubulin”.

The phomopsin A standard was dissolved in methanol and analyzed by LC-MS. As a result, there are two peaks of the same mass value. Is there an isomer in the Phomopsin A standard?
