Phenylboronic acid is a boronic acid containing a phenyl substituent and two hydroxyl groups attached to boron. Boronic acids are mild Lewis acids which are generally stable and easy to handle, making them important to organic synthesis including numerous cross coupling reactions. Phenylboronic acid is often used as a reagent in the C-C bond forming processes, and Heck-type cross coupling of phenylboronic acid to alkenes and alkynes. Phenylboronic acid can be used as a protecting group for diols and diamines, and in regioselectively halodeboronated using aqueous bromine, chlorine, or iodine.
