Phencyclidine Antibody (6E7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Phencyclidine in non-species reactive applications such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Phencyclidine antibody (6E7) is available as a non-conjugated format, providing researchers with a reliable tool for studying this important compound. Phencyclidine, commonly known as PCP, is a dissociative drug originally developed as an anesthetic but now primarily recognized for hallucinogenic and neurotoxic effects. Phencyclidine functions as an agonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor, essential for synaptic plasticity and memory function in the brain. Through binding to the NMDA receptor, Phencyclidine induces prolonged depolarization of neurons, effectively inhibiting normal receptor activity and leading to significant alterations in perception and cognition. This mechanism highlights potential neurotoxic effects, including development of Olney′s lesions, a specific type of brain damage associated with prolonged exposure. With a molecular weight of 243.387 g/mol, Phencyclidine′s psychoactive effects may last for hours, while elimination from the body can take weeks, underscoring the need for careful monitoring in both clinical and research settings.
